If a certain page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is broken, the visitor will see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which can make the visitor leave your Internet site. A possible solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some website hosting providers - the option to set up your own customized error pages which will have the same layout as your Internet site and that can contain any text or images that you'd like depending on the particular error. There are 4 common errors which can take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your Internet browser sends a bad request to the web server and it can't be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see a webpage, but you have not done this yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to view a certain page; and 404, when a link which you've clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In each of these scenarios, visitors shall be able to see your custom made content as opposed to a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You'll be able to set up custom error pages for each of your Internet sites without difficulty if you use any of our cloud services. This can be done using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts and once you go there, you can set your custom pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You have to upload the files to your account ahead of time and enter the links to them during the process. This feature could be de-activated anytime and the options you'll be able to choose from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Tailor-made error pages may be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it should incorporate some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you can copy the entire content you'll need for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you could set customized error pages for each of them with ease using our in-house made Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With several clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to modify the default setting from a system page to a custom made one for any of the 4 error types. All you must do is provide a link to each and every file that you've uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you'll be able to revert this modification anytime and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you may use an .htaccess file too. It must be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the site whose error pages you intend to alter and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article about this matter.
